How BSNPreceptor Works

Traditional and accelerated prelicensure clinical placements are generally coordinated by the nursing program. Students on that path should use the program's placement process and should not contact outside sites unless current written instructions explicitly permit a proposal.

Some post-licensure or other baccalaureate courses may permit a student to propose a community field-experience site, preceptor, or mentor. That is the conditional path we can support. The exact pathway, field requirement, and placement ownership must come from current program documents, not from accreditation or a school name.

There is no universal BSN clinical or field-experience total. Confirm the current requirement through the catalog, degree audit, course instructions, and placement office. See BSN clinical hours for the general framework.

Send the exact pathway, course, catalog year, applied objective, confirmed requirement, dates, state, acceptable setting, candidate credentials, site criteria, forms, and placement-office instructions. Include the current language showing that the student may propose a person or site.

If the program coordinates placement, use that process. If a requirement is unclear, ask the program before outreach. We do not infer an RN-to-BSN pathway, outside field requirement, fixed hours, or student sourcing from the institution's accreditation record.

Next, we look for a community or clinical site and a preceptor or mentor your program can approve, located near you. For an RN-to-BSN field experience, the setting is often community or public-health focused rather than a hospital unit.

A BSN field-experience preceptor does not have to be an advanced-practice nurse. Depending on your program, an experienced RN or a public-health professional can serve as your preceptor or mentor. We match to what your specific program will accept.

Placement is never guaranteed. We work to find a fit, but availability depends on your location, your program's rules, and what sites will host at that time.

Once we have a candidate site and preceptor, your school reviews and approves them. Final approval always rests with your program: we source and prepare, but your school decides whether the placement counts.

After we have a confirmed match, we prepare the site and preceptor paperwork so your program has what it needs to sign off. This is also the point where billing begins: nothing is billed until a match is confirmed and your school approves it. See cost for details.

We are an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any university. Your program sets the standards, and we work within them.

With approval in place, you begin your field-experience hours with your matched preceptor or mentor. From here, most of the work is yours and your preceptor's: completing hours and documenting them the way your program requires.
